Really, for me it varies. If I'm jetting up to speed quick, like to get onto a 75MPH highway, I usually pop 2nd pretty low, like 15MPH or around 2500K, then wrap that out, pop 3rd as late as 45 or more, and that can take me to 75 (actually, almost 90).

For regular, riding around, I normally shift in the 3500-4500 RPM range. you can do it earlier, too. it pulls quite strong from about 2000RPM.

If you're not lugging the engine, or hitting red-line every time, the bike won't be bothered when you do it. I don't think I've had mine past 10K RPMs, which seems quite enough for me. Not much you can do in those areas to hurt it. You can feel when it lugs, and you know in your heart and soul when you're too high. The rest is gravy.

I don't think you're supposed to shift until the tach needle sees red - right?!

I shift 1-3-5 so I am in 5th at 31 mph.

Its flat in NJ.

I considering changing that to just 1-5, shifting into fifth at 31 mph.

I'll pay very close attention when I get it back, and let you know.

I know of no one else that shifts quite like Echo. If I wrap out a gear, I may skip a gear or two (like highway entrances, and 90 in 3rd), but it's not the norm for me. I tend to relax most of the time, and just work through them easily. I'm normally not in a hurry unless there's a big 3500 truck behind me chasing me (don't laugh, happened this week). Had to do some diving to get away from him, but even though he may have been happy to run me off the road, a few cars slowed him down, and then I was a ghost. Man, I love this bike.

As with so much ...... it "depends". Probably the most mellow riding is me shifting at 2800-3000 rpm which is maybe 4th to 5th at 50-55 mph. I rarely skip gears. Sometimes it's at 9250 rpm or 56, 78, 105, 130 mph. It all depends.
