Default Road positioning in corners

I took this series of photos trying to help a guy who did not have a clue about road riding (red BMW) because I thought he was dangerous in bends. The other guy on the Honda CBR was a police motorcyclist. Remember - we are riding on the left of the road here. In the end, the BMW man was beyond hope - he just could not do it. We put a big effort into him to cure him of his corner cutting habitI'm afraid I was forthright with him and 2 weeks later he turned his BMW back into the dealer and never rode again. In these photos I could see from my vantage point that the road was clear but the riders could not.

I enjoyed the scenery in the pictures at least as much as the lesson. Since you mentioned the left side of the road, I assume this was in England rather than one of your Europe trips. Good stuff. I like the set up for touring with hard bags.

Wow!

I wonder why the guy just couldn't get it?

Did he not understand counter-steering or something?

Wow!

Glad he gave up riding. Some people just are not cut out for it. I've had to council out several folks from our MSF classes. And now they're opening them up to people right off the streets (we're taking over testing from WA states' DMV). THAT should be interesting! (NOT)

Actually, the photos were taken in France - I mirrored the photo's for the use of a local advanced riding instructor to use. I can't find the original right hand photos. The location is the Lac de Serre-Ponšon, Hautes-Alpes, France - a beautiful part of France.
Here's a mirrored one of me just exiting a hairpin bend - still on the correct side of the road. You can see how far round the bend I am looking - that's where I want to go!
