Default Bluetooth mouse problem

I have a Dell XPS 13 laptop-Windows 10

I am using a Microsoft Bluetooth 3600 Mobile Mouse.

It occasionally stops and I go to Bluetooth devices and restart it.
It stopped working completely and I cannot get it to display the mouse cursor.
I have removed it and re-paired it, after a new battery, still no luck, even though it says it is paired.

I bought a new mouse and removed the old one before installing and pairing the new one, still not working.

Geek Squad rescued me.
I had to due a hard boot and then add a new bluetooth device.

I had already tried adding and it paired but wouldn't connect.

It still dies, from time to time.
I came back from a walk and the mouse wasn't connected.

Sorry, dude...didn't mean to let you down. I wasn't around and watching the forum much yesterday/today.

(the excuse begins) The wife is away on business, and I also have a new animal in the house. He's a really good looking Black-Mouth Cur (google the breed - he's the perfect specimen). Problem is, this guy is built to run all day long - and I work all day. So almost my entire night is devoted in a decidedly useless attempt to wear him out.

Anyway...I would suggest check for updated drivers.

First, use the service tag on Dell's support site (support.dell.com) and check for BIOS upgrades. On boot, get into the BIOS (F2 or F1 should get you there). On the main screen it should show you the version you have. If you're eyes are quick enough, you can see it on boot-up. Before the OS loads, you can also Ctrl-Alt-Delete to restart it. It might take a few time before you figure out 1) where to look, and 2) what it says.

Then, when you're sure you have the latest BIOS, check for driver updates. Get (and re-install) the bluetooth drivers from Dell.

Quite often, Micro$oft will update drivers - and sometimes the updates actually are far worse than the manufacturers drivers.

Give those a shot. It's what I would do, anyway. At least to start with.

I was able to install the newest BIOS but the wireless update download failed.

In all likelihood, that's the more important of the files to get. Clean up your downloads/temp folder and try again.

From the Dell site, don't add it to the basket, or whatever they have to get it. Use the direct download link.

I think it is about as good as it's going to be, now.
