Joe and I are working towards making this a reality (I know, you all thought it was over).

I do have a question I'd really be interested in hearing your thoughts on...

If I were to set up an Amazon Afilliates program account, would any of you use it?

Here's how it works:
- I put a link up top. The "Donate" link would be a dropdown:
-- a "you can give directly using payPal" link, and
-- a "Shop on Amazon" link.

Once you click the Amazon link, a percentage of the money for everything you purchase goes into the affiliate account, which I could then use to fund things like hard drives, OS upgrades, bandwidth upgrades, things like that. You can shop from your phone, computer or whatever you like. Put everything in your cart, and then, when you finally get ready to buy, click the link, purchase, and the percentage goes.

Although not a real tag, it would look something like this:
Code:
http://www.amazon.com/?tag=st1300.us.com
It doesn't interfere with any charities you already may have set up (you DID know you can give to charities, right?).

I can post a monthly statement of the account for those interested. You'll be able to see where we stand at any point in time.

It's important to note that the affiliates program does NOT change what you would pay in any way. I have no idea how they do it, but there you go.

I honestly expect any income from this to be modest at best. However, I need very little. I'm mostly looking at boosting the bandwidth, and converting to a business class connection. Over time, server upgrades will be a necessity, and keeping software up to date can be time consuming. UPS' require replacing every so often, etc.

So let me know. You can PM me, or post here. I may have even asked about this before...my mind isn't what is used to be.

I always try to use smile.amazon.com, which does something similar. For every purchase I make, Amazon donates an amount proportional to my purchase to the charity of my choice (a local food bank, in this case).

Since I seldom shop on Amazon I do not take credit for ending hunger in my area, but I wouldn't be interested in diluting or diverting my already meager contribution.

I'm researching the Smile vs. the Affiliates vs. the Charities programs. Smile is by far the worst (with your contribution reaching a massive maximum .5%). Affiliates reaches a cap of 8.5%, but I haven't figured out the charities part yet.

I do know that you attach a charity to your account, and the affiliates and charities programs work together. I won't waste my time with the Smile program - either to support this site nor as a contribution - just not enough to worry about. Charities I do - but not Smile. Let me figure out the Smile program more and see if that also work with affiliates program. My guess is it does - I just have to figure it out.

I'll let you know what I figure out.

I didn't realize there were options that provided higher benefit rates than smile, so when you make the choice I'll be on board.

Hunger in this country is a disgrace, so I do what I can. My Amazon-driven contributions aren't enough prevent a mouse from starving, because I simply do not buy much from Amazon if for no other reason, but I also make a direct contribution to the local food bank every month, automatically.

But, if there's a way to increase that through other avenues that I'd be supporting anyhow, I'm all for it.

Thanks for the info.

Personally, I have no problem just sending money directly to the person doing the work and sending it in a quantity sufficient to be useful.

I have a Wells Fargo truck on hot standby ready to carry the cash to San Antonio, TX right now.

Okay, that's not true. But I can send money anytime.

I would rather just donate directly to the forum owner.

I do not use amazon often . . . so, could use the link in rare occasion .

But , direct donation like before , I prefer ,when ever it is needed by the forum Owner .

Just ask like Joe did , and do not be shy to do so . have to stay alive and in good health .
